Will Robocop still be in my top 5 favourite films by the end of the year? Hmmm?

Come to think of it, I haven't seen many reviews of it on here. Noff can ya hear me? I need eyes on, from 90s action guy.

Here's the situation I hope becomes a pattern:

Total Recall (1990) - Never bothered seeing it
Total Recall (2012) - Surprisingly enjoyable!

Judge Dredd (1995) - Never bothered seeing it
Dredd (2012) - Surprisingly enjoyable!

RoboCop (1987) - Never bothered seeing it
RoboCop (2014) - ??

Tron (1982) - Never bothered seeing it
TRON: Legacy (2010) - ??

Conan the Barbarian (1982) - Never bothered seeing
Conan the Barbarian (2011) - ??

And then there's all the other quasi-superhero crap from that era I've never bothered to go back and watch (because it looks like crap) that could conceivably be remade:

RoboCop is definitely in my sights. It's great when they work because then I can write off the chore of having to go back and watch the original, because I'll already have found my preferred version. :)

Wuuuuuuuut? The 'noff hasn't seen the original RoboCop? This needs to be remedied ASAP.

My original problem with it was I had seen T2 first, and after that everything else, including RoboCop, looked cheap, and so I avoided it. I suppose I could go back and watch it now, but I've heard so much about it over the years I feel like know it already. The mystery at least would be gone. I feel it'd be a bit like riding a 35 year old roller coaster having already experienced modern ones. I could enjoy it, but I'll never have that "remember when this was the greatest thing ever" connection, that later becomes a soft-spot. I don't think you can synthesize or just imagine a time where it was the best, you really have to live it. And for RoboCop that time has come and gone.

I watched it a few years ago. It still has plenty of surprises and I'd tell you what they are but that'd spoil the point. Seriously, though, it's maybe the best of those late 80s early 90s sci fi action movies. Better than T2.

@noff. I'm not disagreeing with your opinion on older stuff. I just feel a little disappointed for you that it puts a barrier between you and a vast amount of media.

You would find the effects in the original Robocop clunky, no doubt. The new one is as bright and shiny as you would expect. When the large robots appear it certainly is an improvement on the first one. The original big ED scenes are brilliant (you must have heard of the "you have ten seconds to comply" scene) but those effects are definitely ropey. It's just Verhoeven's nihilism really works with this story.

Don't worry that statement about it being better than T2 is just a ruse to get you watching. It isn't correct IMHO. Not by a mile.
