Really cool.

It's one of those tricky things in terms of gender equality. We aren't a species where physical gender differences are insignificant. Men on average are much taller and do, with the help of ample testosterone, have greater musculature, especially upper body. So the question is, do you celebrate her as the best woman ever, or as simply broadly speaking a person of great achievement (because it isn't like a lot of men could do what she just did). And this competition is one that probably is biased toward male strengths rather than female strengths to begin with.

I tried watching that video last week. It took me a while to find one that works.

Realizing all the cool stuff that's gonna happen in the next couple of months:

September:

-Marylinne Robinson is coming to Baylor in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to going.
-Barbra Duguid is coming to our church the week after that for a weekend conference. Her book Extravagant Grace really helped me a lot last year.

October:

-Presenting at MPCA/ACA conference on Kiarostami.
-Co-hosting a horror film festival at the college I work at.
-Presenting at Baylor's Faith Symposium on Kieslowski's Three Colors Trilogy.

I plan on doing a lot of sleeping in November.

Looking forward to hearing about this!

Cool. I've been reading through her book, too, and it's really good stuff. Barb and her husband Iain, who taught at Westminster Seminary while Uri was a student, were hugely influential in our lives - personally, spiritually - during our California years. Iain started a church plant our first year there - Iain's a phenomenal preacher and biblical exegete - and the Duguids welcomed us in as a part of it. They were kind enough to say we were "helping," but really, we just spent a lot of time at their house - they're so hospitable. Barb's just as down to earth and real in person as she sounds in her book - and in retrospect, I think it was she and Iain who helped me - Uri, too - understand grace for the first time. You can know something, but not really know something. You know? :)  Anyway, I'd love, if you get a chance, to hear how the conference goes.
