Smartphone talk.
« on: March 23, 2014, 05:31:13 PM »
I finally, finally convinced myself to get one. Of course within days, I am now asking myself how I could ever be without it.
This here thread to share phone details, app recommendations or just random thoughts.

My most used apps:
  • @Keeper - Password generator/storage
  • RealCalc - A more functional calculator with super handy conversion tables
  • Automatic Call Recorder - Runs in the background, records all your calls (surprisingly useful)
  • WeChat - Chat app with just enough features
  • Google Keep - simple note taking app. I prefer it to the calander app for setting reminders and appointments.

I was just looking into recording apps today. Do you need this for business calls?

Nothing like that. I mainly wanted it for those occasions when I deal with cable, phone, credit card, hydro, bank, etc. They have a way of not doing what they said they would do on the phone. They record calls for "quality assurance", I record calls to cover my butt. /paranoid

I feel the same way. Hardcore BlackBerry addict here. I thought about bailing last year when my contract was up and BB was on the rocks, but I buckled down and went with the newest model, and it was like falling in love all over again. The OS is beautiful.

I'm using DuoLingo often. It's a fun little app that gameifies language learning: in my case, French (though you can toggle more than one language). Basically it's a pared down version of Rosetta Stone that's available for free.

I use Duolingo as well. The way it terrorizes me about vocabulary learning reminds me of my mom.

I'm new to smartphones myself, and I'm glad to have some suggestions for apps.  I added a couple of 'noff's suggestions.

This is why I never return smirnoff's calls.
