Walter Brennan's impression of John Wayne, hilarious, makes me laugh every time.

If my review of My Darling Clementine ever goes up it may convince you to watch it if only to see Brennan in a villain role.

Cool post, smirnoff. You've inspired me to watch Lonesome Dove. I recall my mom watching it when I was a kid so I remember it being on but I was too young to get it.

If you've got a boring Sunday to kill, it's a good way to do it :)

Good music too. Forgot to mention that.

As flawed as Heaven's Gate was, I did like Vilmos Zsigmond's cinematography, the art direction, and David Mansfield's score which were the highlights of the film for me.

You're right void. Credit where credit is due. Of the three things you mentioned the art direction is what sticks out in my mind most of all.

And as irrelevant as it was, the Harvard waltz sequence I felt was brilliantly shot though it felt like it was from a different film.  Cimino does have a great eye for scenery but his execution was terrible.  I didn't have anyone to root for in the end of the film and I hated the ending of the film.  Yet, whenever it's on and on widescreen.  I tend to watch it because of the cinematography and art direction.  It's a very flawed film.  I give it 2-2.5 out of 5.  I think it's technical work tends to outshine everything else including the story, historical context (which was inaccurate), and a lot of the performances (though Christopher Walken was pretty good).

A memorable scene indeed. The camera work really captured the sense of being part of the dance.

I'm glad you chimed in. I haven't heard the film discussed before on the boards, so I was totally in the dark as far as knowing what to expect.
