Heaven's Gate is a great film.

I can understand being bored by the slow pace, that's a matter of personal taste.  But none of the other arguments against it make sense to me.

I'll admit, all the other arguments probably stem from my boredom.

I don't know how anyone could enjoy this game though.

For some reason.  I wasn't bored by it because of its length.  I think it was well-paced though I think in some ways.  Michael Cimino was trying to rip off Terrence Malick in terms of his approach to the pacing plus certain compositions and what he wanted in the cinematography, particularly with Days of Heaven but in a far more bloated presentation.

All of Cimino's films have that same slow pacing.  The Deer Hunter takes forever to cover only a handful of plot points.  The Onion Field put me to sleep at least twice in one viewing.

The glow Vilmos Zsigmund gives to the images is somewhat similar to that in Days Of Heaven, though I think of that film as having a golden hue, whereas Heaven's Gate is rosy or even sepia toned.

So when you watch HG do you enjoy it or do you just respect it? Or both?

I've only seen it once, but I enjoyed every minute.
