When I first saw the trailer for Suburbicon, I thought someone had remade Burn After Reading.

Yea, when I saw the trailer I felt something strangely familiar. General consensus seems to be that it doesn't stick the landing.

1. Who is your favorite movie director working today?
PT Anderson
I would love to get a ranked list from you in this thread. Curious where Phantom Thread ranks against the others, especially with DDL involved.

2. Who is the greatest movie director of All Time and what is the worst movie by them you've seen?
Ingmar Bergman (Saraband)
Bergman's career is so prolific I'd wager there are plenty of titles you haven't seen that would rank below Saraband.

3. Who is the greatest living movie Actor and Actress?
Daniel Day Lewis/Michelle Williams
4. Who is the greatest movie Actor and Actress of all time?
Toshiro Mifune/Meryl Streep
I'm guessing this is implying that Streep's best work is behind her while Williams' is in peak form.

5. What is your favorite Overlooked Film?
Mary and Max
That one used to be constantly discussed around here. That director has a short called Harvie Krumpet that's very similar and just as good.

7. What is your favorite TV Show of All Time?
The Office
Which version?
...asking for a friend.  ;)

14. For each category, list 1 Favorite and 1 you wish more of us would watch:
Horror Movie -   Let the Right One In    and   Dead Snow
I prefer Dead Snow 2, but they play well together.

Too many quotes within quotes to separate it all out for you but...

1.  I have a couple of Anderson's newer films to catch up on, but I'm seeing Phantom Thread next weekend and then I will post my list.
2.  While I have seen a bunch of Bergman, for sure I haven't had a chance to see them all, so there are probably quite a few harder to find films that would rank lower than Saraband (which I liked very much).
3.  Williams is just making better movies right now.
5.  Any chance I get to mention Mary and Max I'll take it.
7.  US. I've tried the UK version a few times but because the US became instantly my favorite show it's hard to see the characters any other way. My wife and I pretty much have it on a constant loop.
14.  Haven't watched 2, but was able to see Dead Snow at the Traverse City Film Festival at a midnight screening, which was one of my greatest movie watching experiences ever.

1. Awesome. Now that I'm interested in PTA again, I like seeing where others put him, especially ones who have never wavered.
2. That makes more sense that you see Saraband as lesser Bergman. I initially read it as a rare misstep.
7. Easily one of the great work experiences of my life and something that at my age will probably never happen again.
14. 2 is definitely going to suffer by comparison of the experience. I prefer 2 because it had a larger scale and the filmmakers had the imagination to fill it.

Got my PTA list posted. I'm not happy with it and need to rewatch a couple, but I think it's fairly close to the final product.

Welcome to the forum, and 2020, isabelarooney

For me Tomboy is definitely overlooked, and it is currently on Kanopy

Is it that you do not have a top 100?

Hello isabelarooney.
If you're wondering, these questions involve projects that were frequently discussed in the past on these Boards.

1. Who is your favorite movie director working today?
R: There are several directors that I like a lot so it is difficult to choose just one, but among the new names I like Denis Villeneuve a lot.
Villeneuve has been mentioned a lot in this current discussion. I've been trying hard to find someone who had a better decade and I've come up with Bong Joon-ho and Yorgos Lanthimos, but they're not clear choices over Villeneuve to me. What do you think is Villeneuve's best work this decade?

2. Who is the greatest movie director of All Time and what is the worst movie by them you've seen?
R: I have no idea. I haven't watched enough movies yet to know who is the greatest director of all time, but among those I know would say Billy Wilder. There is no movie of his that I would consider the 'worst'.
Wilder is a great choice. Five of his films are favorites of mine, with three in my Top 100. Because of that, I've done a deep dive into his work and have been unlucky enough to watch Avanti! and A Foreign Affair.

4. Who is the greatest movie Actor and Actress of all time?
R: I have no idea. Maybe Bette Davis and Marlon Brando
I'm a big Bette Davis fan. Sometimes she can be a ham, but that's rare. I also love James Cagney and he's a ham most of the time, so I'm clearly not anti-ham

11. Die Hard or Back to the Future?
R: Die Hard.
Our most popular poll needs your vote.

Horror Movie - The Thing and The Wailing
Film Noir - Blade Runner and You were never really here
From your recommendations, I wonder if you'd be interested in A Bittersweet Life (2005) or the best of Takeshi Kitano's minimalist violent dramas, Fireworks (1997) and Sonatine (1993)
