I consider Stanley Kubrick to be one of my favourite directors.

I haven't seen his early work though.

Paths of Glory
The Killing
Killer's Kiss
Fear and Desire

I will be watching either Paths of Glory or The Killing tonight.

But I was just wondering should I watch his first two films? (They are available in a nice Bluray two pack) I know he didn't want people to go back and watch Fear and Desire.

Cheers :)

F&D is utterly skippable.

KK has some major flaws, but it's got some interesting stuff going on too.  Very off-kilter for a noir, and the photography is stunning.

Agree with Martin, skip Fear and Desire, but Killer's Kiss is worth rounding out your Kubrick experience!

Haven't seen Fear and Desire, but Killer's Kiss has its moments. Worth seeing.

Paths of Glory and The Killing are fantastic though. Better than Spartacus.

This.  As far as F&D goes, there was good reason Kubrick kept it from being viewed for so long, it really is not good.  But if you have watched everything else, I suppose you could than complete the features.  I saw it on Youtube before and it is not long

I saw F&D in a special screening at the IFC theater in NYC. It's a thriller and short enough to be interesting to the Kubrick enthusiasts. By no means, it's a must, but for the completionist, I don't think you will regret the 62 min. It has a great scene with a boat going through fog that reminds me Jean Vigo's L'atalante.

Killer's Kiss is a very good movie. The Killing is top-notch noir and one's of Kubrick's best.

Would anyone still be talking about Killer's Kiss today if it wasn't directed by Kubrick? I know I wouldn't. It's a curiosity and not much more imo.

Did not end up enjoying The Killing that much. Hated the voiceover but I know that was the producers work.

It has its moments as a noir film. It would probably still be in noir cannons, but probably on the lower end of the spectrum.
