Selma

(Somebody please nominate A Most Violent Year. I haven't seen it but I have to imagine Bradford Young knocks it out of the park).

Actually, the cinematography is one of the weaker aspects of A Most Violent Year. Young goes for Gordon Willis lighting a Sidney Lumet film, and it ends up like underlit Sidney Lumet. (Trying to duplicate Willis' use of dark spaces is as difficult as  trying to duplicate Ennio Morricone's spaghetti western themes.)

Bradford Young also did Selma and it's the better work of the two.

Is the Great Beauty eligible? Was part of last years Oscars, but I think a March 2014 US release.

It is, yeah. I even highlighted it on the ballot, along with The Wind Rises.

I think I'd love how awkward it'd be, or how awkward it should be.
