Top 5 Songs to send us off
« on: October 16, 2014, 02:38:36 AM »
A list for the songs which transition the film's ending to its credit sequence. The songs that sit with you in the dark, emphasize all you've witnessed, and help you take it all in...
Not just a list for songs you like, but for songs integrated well in the direction of a film's final moments.

Some rules-
(1) The songs must be the first song in the film's credits, and preferably in the background of its final scene/shot.
(2) Licensed songs only please, no scores, no musical finales, and nothing diegetic.
(3) The songs should represent the themes of their respective movies.

Here's my list

#5 - Baby, You're A Rich Man by The Beatles
The Social Network

#4 - Eblouie Par La Nuit by Zaz
Dead Man Down

#3 - Where Is My Mind? by The Pixies
Fight Club

#2 - Farewell by Bob Dylan
Inside Llewyn Davis

#1 - The Wolves by Bon Iver
The Place Beyond The Pines

Some Honourable Mentions

Money By Barrett Strong
Killing Them Softly

Hurdy Gurdy Man By Donovan
Zodiac

A Real Hero by College & The Electric Youth
Drive

Threw this list together after watching Dead Man Down (Eblouie Par La Nuit is stuck in my head, and I don't even speak French), so it isn't anything special, but I'm curious to see what I missed :)

Good list but can't quite think of anything at the moment other than Paint it Black for Full Metal Jacket.

Don't You (Forget About Me) is the obvious choice.

I remember loving the end of The Insider but I think that may have been a score. I need to watch that again.

Edgar Wright always does this really well. My favourite of his is from Shaun of the Dead, namely

Queen - You're My Best Friend

List of shame admission... I've never seen any Kubrick films. I should get on that :)

Some great choices guys! I'm really excited to see what else you can all think up.

See, I thought "The Sound of Silence" from The Graduate was the obvious choice.

The use of Moby's Extreme Ways to end each Bourne film has always satisfied me greatly.

Jackie Brown, another obvious choice I guess.

I think Michael Bay, or his editor, hit the perfect note with the ending of The Island.

It doesn't qualify since it's a score but I think Two Towers has one of the best send-offs of all time. :)

The end of High Fidelity when Cusack is talking about making the perfect mix tape for Laura it goes into Stevie Wonder's "I Believe (When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever)"
