Christmas Day Plans and (Part 2) the Gifts We Got!

We are having our Australian grandson and his parents over for an early swim, then drinks (Leo will be napping) and late lunch on Christmas Day; same for Boxing Day ... swim, drinks, late lunch.  Nothing exciting but nice family time and pavlova!  My American family is going to NYC for Christmas.

What's everyone else doing?

My plan is to drive my daughters up to Mt. Hood to play in the snow.  However, since I twisted my ankle, Mrs. oldkid is lobbying to have us stay at home with my foot in the air.

Going to see new releases in the movie theater for the first time in months. Probably The Hobbit, Into the Woods, and ... not sure yet.

Lots of family time for us, too: stockings and homemade cinnamon rolls in the morning when the kids wake up, then Christmas service at church, then home for family time, presents, etc. Then, over to my parents for Christmas dinner and festivities with my grandma, my brother, his wife (Uri's sister), and their 5 children.

These all sound like fun, including both potentialities for oldkid. And as of tonight, I can actually vouch for The Hobbit part 3 as being at the very least the best film in the trilogy.

As the son of divorce, I split my time between my mom and dad every year. So morning will be with my mom. We usually watch a movie I got, but sometimes something else. Pancakes this year. After that we'd usually go to visit my grandfather but since he died this year, that's not happening. Then is the drive ACROSS STATE (20 mins or so) to my dad where I'm not the only kid. It can get a little rowdy there, but it is good fun. It's the first year in the 6th or 7th house I've celebrated with them in, so that'll be a new thing. Another new thing: we're having some aunts and uncles coming over for dinner. Which unfortunately means I'll probably have to put some actual clothes on instead of PJs. Whatever. Over there we also like to have the NBA games on, even though we (my bro and I) only really pay attention to the night cap game. Clippers Warriors should be a fun time.

For xmas eve, will go to a dinner party at a friend's house.  Lots of good food and wine.

My wife won't be here until this weekend so just going to take care of some personal projects.  Most important will be changing around a few things in the home theatre and trying to get them configured and calibrated.

Still living at home, so I'll just be hanging with the immediate family. We'll do gifts in the morning and probably have steaks for lunch. Beyond that, we'll probably watch a movie, play a boardgame or two, and just chill. We like our Christmases as laid back as possible.

Most importantly, I've made watching Shop Around the Corner a Christmas eve tradition, so we'll be watching that tonight.

Dinner at my house tonight - Chicken Tortilla Soup

Christmas Morning, a big breakfast (to offset all the candy that will be in the kid's systems) and then presents one by one - very slow and torturous for said kids.
