TDH, I would love to hear about it. How historically precise is it and what period does it cover ? Is it tediously academic ?

I'm not sure how to respond to how historically precise it is. It does get specific with dates if that's what you mean. It's not a general timeline. There's not a lot of guessing. It starts at the creation of Rome and obviously will end at the end. It focuses on major turning points. The chapters are Revolution, Caesar, Augustus, Nero, Rebellion, Hadrian, Constantine and Fall. I'm finding it very easy to read. Not academic at all. It's a breeze.

Yeah but what do they mean by fall ? The Western barbarian invasions ? The destruction of the Byzantine empire ? The stalemate between Byzantium and Persia ?

Thanks to the book club, I am on a Murikami reading binge.

I've read:
Kafka on the Shore
The Wild Sheep Chase
1Q84
Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage

And now I'm reading:
Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World

I really love reading this...especially since I am stalled on Kafka. Dove deep into Neal Stephenson's Seveneves.
Hey, nice marmot!

Skimming through the last chapter i saw mentions of the barbarians as well as 456 AD. I don't know any more specifics as i haven't read that far yet.

Having finished it now i can say it's predominantly about the sack of Rome in 410 AD by Alaric and The Goths.
