Same. I wished Ethan Hunt to fall from that tower very badly.

That's curious. What was it about this adventure that made you want to see him go splat?
Considering each film is pretty much more of the same, why see Part IV at all?
How come you hated Tom Cruise here when you're such a fan of Edge of Tomorrow? Did you like that film in spite of Cruise? Did you find much difference between the two performances?

Martin, is there a long running franchise character you do enjoy?

The two that immediately come to mind are both Harrison Ford: Han Solo and Indiana Jones.

Indiana Jones would've been an excellent option here since that's another one where I'm thinking "no more", and the follow-up films leave me very mixed overall. (BTW, I'm not thinking "no more" with Hunt. Cruise is Cruise, but his acting while always solid has never been at the heights of the other two... or Damon as Jason Bourne for that matter.)

Voted for Ethan Hunt. Hannibal Lector is definitely good but there's not a lot of it. Jack Sparrow is also good but I've been over Johnny Depp for a while now.

Also leaning towards Ethan Hunt....

Performance wise...

1. Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter (The Silence of the Lambs)
2. Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl)
3. Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt (Mission Impossible III/Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol)

Would be eager to see another movie from their respective franchises...

1. Ethan Hunt/Mission Impossible
2. Jack Sparrow/Pirates of the Caribbean
3. Hannibal Lecter

Mainly because, for me, the MI franchise thanks to Abrams and Bird feels like it can still surprise me, while I'm tired of Pirates especially after an attempt at something "new" with On Stranger Tides and frankly since Hannibal/Red Dragon didn't live up to The Silence of the Lambs, I doubt another one will be made or that Hopkins would ever return for.

I may have misunderstood. If this is a competition based on long running Tom Cruise wins. Fastest man in cinema.

Very true. And Depp doesn't run so much as he awkwardly saunters towards you.

Hopkins would eat the livers of the other two, winning by default.

Can't stand Tom Cruise in MI; Anthony Hopkins had one brilliant performance as Lector and then the performance fell flat.

That leaves Depp, because I still find him entertaining.

Merely judging by the characters :

I prefer Depp over Hopkins because Sparrow is enormously entertaining and Hopkins only had that one good (notice how I don't say great) performance and was merely okay in the other movies. Depp remains at the same level of quirkiness through the franchise.

Hunt is not even in the running for me. I would not even remember his name if it weren't for this poll. As far as I'm concerned he is just your average action hero movie with no real personality.
