I guess it's possible I'll participate in this. Depends on how far you stretch the West.

How far do you need me to?

You could join me for The Ballad of Little Jo:
A young woman of the mid-19th century quickly learns that young, female, pretty, and alone are a bad combination for life in the wild west. In her desperation to survive, Josephine disguises herself as "Jo", a young man, and struggles to make a life for herself in a dingy frontier mining town.

That has the slight problem of being available on Netflix or anywhere else as far as I can tell.

How do you think Jan Troell's The New Land (1972) befits the genre?

I haven't seen it, but IMDB says it's a Western.
It's also the sequel to The Emigrants.

I don't recall at what point The Emigrants ends right now, but I think it's just after they arrive in North America. For my part The New Land is Top 100 worthy and it has a different perspective on what we are used to think of when we say "Western". That's why I asked.

I have decided to martyr myself during this marathon by watching only John Wayne westerns... the good, the bad and a lot of ugly. I don't know if I'll survive this month, but I'm going in with guns a blazin'.  ;)
