They Shoot Zombies Don't They
« on: April 24, 2015, 06:45:25 PM »
A blogger over at I Check Movies spent a year compiling over 1200 lists to create this amazing list of The 1000 Greatest Horror Films.

I don't want to bog this post in details, but I've never seen so much care and concern go into creating a list before. She worked hard to give each list its fair consideration and cover all possible concerns with some solid formulas. The year-long, 14 page process can be read here.

I'm deeply impressed by the quality of the website and the detail provided with each movie. It's also great to read how current the list is with 13 titles from 2013 and 2014.
The Conjuring (2013), ranked 158
Evil Dead (2013), ranked 429
The Babadook (2014), ranked 533
World War Z (2013), ranked 541
V/H/S/2 (2013), ranked 575
Under the Skin (2013), ranked 587
Stalled (2013), ranked 672
Warm Bodies (2013), ranked 762
Mama (2013), ranked 818
Only Lovers Left Alive (2013), ranked 822
Oculus (2013), ranked 889
Curse of Chucky (2013), ranked 946
Stoker (2013), ranked 971

Needless to say, this list will be a major part of my Shocktober. I have 336 unwatched titles.

I definitely want to work through this list at some point. Probably will be something I look at doing after I worked through the They Shoot Pictures Don't They list, which will probably take me 2-3 more years to finish.

Love the name, and the concept.  That's a pretty unassailable top 10.  #1 is on my own top 100 list, and although I don't care for The Thing, I can't deny its popularity or its influence.

Besides my obvious favorites (Shining, Wicker Man, Carrie, Alien) I'm most glad Silent Hill made the list, and pretty high at #294.

I just realized I regret selling my Silent Hill Blu-Ray.

What a great list!  I love both the ones I've seen and the ones I haven't intrigue me.  I guess I will have to keep this list close by when Shocktober rolls around as well.

I really like the variety that allows for horror hybrids without completely leaving the genre for debatable territory. For example...
150. Funny Games
151. Antichrist
152. The Hitcher
153. Tenebre
154. Pan's Labyrinth

Oh yeah, those are all horror as far as I'm concerned.
