Baseball

Baseball being my favorite sport and pastime, I have never actually done a baseball marathon, so I thought the time was ripe for such an occasion. I have collected 56 titles for this marathon, some of which I have seen (titles in
italics
), and others I have not. I am very excited to work my way through this great list of movies and spend even more time with the sport I love. It will probably be a gradual marathon, which I plan on working through chronologically and christening with Ken Burns'
Baseball
documentary mini-series.

Interesting that there's nothing from the 60s. I blame Roger Maris.
edit:
Is
Los pequeños gigantes
available? I want to see it. Reminds me of another documentary I can recommend, but I'll have to think a bit to remember the name...
Found it.
Saw it at a festival, though. Not sure it ever got released.
edit:
Oh, and Charlie Brown's All Stars!
, which I assume is better than
Safe at Home!
.
edit:
Netflix has the DVD for
Small Ball: A Little League Story
.

Make sure that you get Baseball:The Tenth Inning by Ken Burns too (I assume you're counting that in the 1994 version). Otherwise you don't get a Ken Griffey Jr. chapter.

I'm intentionally leaving off documentaries for no good reason really (with the exception at the end). And yes, I will be including the Tenth Inning. Will probably buy the set when I'm ready for it in this marathon.

What a cool marathon, some great titles you will enjoy in there (COBB, EIGHT MEN OUT) and a few silly, but ones I like (MR. BASEBALL, THE SCOUT). Should be lots of fun. If you did include docus, A PLAYER TO BE NAMED LATER is excellent.

Kobayashi's
I Will Buy You
Reposting this with my own recommendation. As a movie, I'm mixed on it but for a Marathon like this I would say it's Essential. You should watch it right before or right after The Scout.
Also, Arthur Hiller's The Babe is a horrible film. Not because it's inaccurate (which doesn't bother me), it's just poor filmmaking.
I'm going to make a prediction that your favorite from your list that you haven't seen yet will be Eight Men Out.

With the addition of
I Will Buy You
, I have decided to take
Summer Catch
out. 56 titles just seems like too perfect a number for a baseball marathon.

I probably got this thread up and going a little too soon, but I do now have
The Pride of the Yankees
from the library, so I should get going within the week.

Corndog, I think I have that movie in my cupboard. I'd like to watch it too!
I echo pixote - I'm also looking forward to your marathon.
