Filmspots 2015: Eligibility Questions
« on: May 09, 2015, 07:55:33 PM »
As outlined in the FAQ, films are eligible up to a three-year period, starting with their first theatrical release, but with three limiting factors:

1) Once a film gains a wide theatrical release in the US (playing simultaneously on more than 100 or so screens), it cannot be eligible again in subsequent years.

2) Once a film debuts on DVD or TV in the US, it cannot be eligible again in subsequent years.

3) Once a film earns a Filmspot nomination, it cannot be eligible again in subsequent years.

Note: US made-for-television movies are only eligible in the year in which they first air. Mini-series are not eligible at all.

(See here for the origin of these guidelines.)

I'll keep track of films with questionable eligibility below.

So, like, Only Yesterday (1991) is going to be eligible in 2016 for Filmspots, right?

The folly of youth! I have a feeling I sided with not including Léon Morin, Priest. I was probably wrong. Yay, precedent!
