Girlhood (2014)
★ ★ ★ - Okay
Few directors have a track record as consistent as Céline Sciamma, and I'm now interested in the level of quality when she writes, but does not direct. While none of her four features are substance or style that I'm drawn to - especially the matter-of-factness of the dialogue - there's such a strong emotional honesty I feel like each of these stories is about her, even though they vary in race, gender and time period.

She wrote but did not direct Ma vie de Courgette / My Life as a Zucchini, a lovely stop-motion animated film.

Already on my 2010s Watchlist. I'm debating Being 17, which is a collaboration with André Téchiné.

I didn't care for that one, didn't remember she was involved.

I saw Celine's worst film first but now that I have completed her filmography, I recognize her as one of the greatest living filmmakers:

-

Portrait of a Lady on Fire 10/10
Tomboy 9/10
Water Lilies 9/10
Pauline 8/10
Girlhood 6/10
