I made a Spotify playlist of Phillips top songs of this decade.  This is because he is promoting the "post rock" movement of which I have stuck my toes in, and found it good, but hard to get my mind around.  I couldn't imagine picking a "best song"... best album, yes, but I couldn't pick songs.  I am hoping this will introduce me to this form and give me a sampler of the kinds of music that are explored.  I am hoping to find a favorite or two or three that I can explore more.

There's quite a variety in the list, so I hope you find a few you like!

You're right, there is!  I am especially pleased at the find of Mogwai, which is somewhere between Black Heart Procession and Red House Painters, both favorites of mine.  The album you pulled from is great, but I found an album I just fell in love with, Come on Die Young.  Right up my alley.

I will explore The Antlers some more as well as Austin Wintory.

Nothing More (self-titled) 2014-  These guys are on the rise, Jenny is tough and the opening companion tracks to the album are very tough.  Tops of anything except the album below I've heard recently.

Lana del Rey Born To Die 2012-  Easily one of my favorites of the past 5 years, love her vocals, the songs all groove.  Very jammable.

Coheed and Cambria The Afterman: Decension 2013-  A few bad albums after Good Apollo, but this one is excellent up and down every song is great and the story continues!

Antemasque (self-titled) 2014- Quite good side project by the ATDI/TMV duo of Cedric and Omar.

Little Hurricane Homewrecker 2012- Sort of bluesy prog-rockian duo that is reminiscent of The White Stripes.  Crocodile Tears and Sweet Pea could sell anyone.

Chevelle Hats off to the Bull 2011- These guys still can produce some good albums, but their great songs are few and far between.  Still are pretty tough.

Honorable Mentions (Good songs, weak albums)-

Hozier (self-titled) 2014- Take Me To Church is great, the rest of the album was very uninspiring.

Hellyeah Blood For Blood 2014- Hush and Moth are great songs and I love Chad Grey's vocals, but this is what crappier Mudvayne has been doing last 10 years.

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour Out of Frequency 2012- The title track is great, but I think I like this Danish crew's live work better.

In This Moment Blood 2012 and Black Widow 2014-  Blood is a little better then it's successor, but both have some really tough, scary vocals.  Songs like Whore, Blood, Big Bad Wolf, and The Fighter show some range of this devilish group.

A Perfect Circle Three Sixty 2013-  By and Down is the only new song on the compilation album of this really cool Maynard side project.  They still write really great music, but I would have much preferred a new album instead of a re-release of music I already have.  Shouldn't anthologies come from bands with 10 plus albums or something?  Even the recent Foo Fighter one seemed a bit early for them.  By and Down though should not be missed, great f-ing tune.

Chevelle La Gargola 2014-  Can I say La Garbageola, lol not quite.  Take out the Gunman is cool and Jawbreaker is tough, these guys sway from great to just mass produced songs like Godsmack or something.

I know some of those, thanks to you! Nothing More, The Afterman: Decension and Homewrecker are top shelf, for sure.

I just finished Born To Die. I'm shattered. I don't think I've heard anyone like her before. Some of what she sings about is as familiar as if she has read my mind, some of it I wish I knew and some of it, I'm afraid of. :)  Wow, just an incredible experience. Thanks for the intro, Col.

The only things I've learned from all these lists:

There is almost no overlap.

Damn, we have good taste.
