Mark the calendars for 2/16.

jeen-yuhs: A Kanye West Trilogy Part 1 arrives on Netflix. Hopefully I'll be able to check that sucker out on the 10th in theaters, even though it's not included with A-List.

I subscribed to Showtime to watch After Yang, and I got a good laugh at how far they lean into their soft porn roots with the "After Hours" section.

Was showtime illegal there? Is porn?

Porn, before streaming when you only had pay channels over cable, you would only find PG-13 type shows on HBO and Cinemax… no Skinimax.  The theatres could show R-21 (basically R rated with the occasional cut scene) that is now available on streaming.  Certain movies are still banned by the government media corp for various reasons but they are relaxing.

While not specifically about movies, I'm tired of the streaming hellscape we live in now. My dad and I have been trying to watch stuff on Apple+ and the other day it just refused to work for the rest of the night. Not the first time it has happened but just really makes me sick of it all.

This doesn't get into multiple services or rotating license for films to the point that what you want may not even be viewable.

Back when I had only physical Netflix, I could go down trails like obscure 90s Asian cinema or silent films. Now I bet you most of those movies are unviewable through any streaming service.

If I'm completely honestly, it's also taken some of the wind out of my sails for watching movies and TV too as I'm at the whims of all these factors.

I too find it more or less a hellscape. I sub to Netflix and the catalog is pretty bad I'd say. It feels like only 2 or 3 times a year a top tier movie lands on the platform (of course that's already a couple years after it made a splash). The rest is stuff that was only ever mediocre. And the Netflix produced stuff is consistently awful.

There's a few series I like that are available though. Mostly what I enjoy on Netflix is rewatching stuff I've seen and like.

I refuse to buy digital copies of content because in every case I'm sure the ownership rights will spontaneously evaporate when it suits the company to do so. And the only physical media I would buy would be for content I love, but with the streaming hellscape I see so little and so buy very little as well. I think Bone Tomahawk is the only film I dont to already own that I would purchase. So little new releases trickle down to Netflix. I have considered switching to something else for a while but in the other hand I don't know. I'm spending more time reading and playing board games that is also good.

Yeah, sounds like we're in a similar space with our hobbies, smirnoff. I've been buying some favorites in 4K for my plex server I made to try to move away from streaming. As much as I like seeing what is new out there, I think I may  be getting to a point in my life where I just want to revisit favorites more instead of keeping up with the rat race of chasing the latest releases.
