Filmspots 2021: Nominations Ballot
« on: April 10, 2022, 05:05:39 PM »
Below is the official nominations ballot for the 2021 Filmspots. To submit a ballot, simply copy and paste the ballot below into a private message to me. The deadline to submit a nominations ballot is Sunday, April 24 (extending into Monday morning).

Please reference the 2021 Filmspot FYC on Google Docs to see what potential nominees other Filmspotters have submitted For Your Consideration (FYC). You are not limited to the options mentioned in the document. However, if something you want to vote for isn't listed, it's in your best interest to get it added so that other people can consider your nominee. The document is also a great resource for verifying which screenplays are Original versus Adapted; which performances are Lead versus Supporting; etc. (Don't forget to also thank Corndog repeatedly for maintaining the document throughout the year.)

Other notes:
  • You do not have to vote in every category, nor do you have to vote for a full five nominees in every category. A first-place vote counts the same whether you list one nominee in a category or a full five; same with a second-place vote, and so on.
  • The order of your nominees is important (votes are weighted) and ties are not allowed. (Someone forgets this every single year.)
  • Each nomination must be tied to a single film. If you want to nominate Olivia Colman for The Father and The Lost Daughter, that has to be two separate votes. You can't combine them.
  • Although they have their own categories, non-English language films, animated films, and documentaries are also eligible for every other category, including Best Picture.
  • Keep in mind that the Filmspots have different eligibility guidelines than, say, the Oscars. Films like The Father, Minari, and Judas and the Black Messiah are eligible for the Filmspots this year, even though they were in Oscar contention last year. For a more detailed explanation of the these guidelines, see the this thread.
  • The Best Debut Feature category recognizes a director's US theatrical feature debut. Earlier films that did not receive theatrical distribution in the US do not affect a director's eligibility.
  • Short films are eligible in every category except Best Debut Feature.
If you have any questions that aren't addressed by the FAQ, please ask them here.

Nominations will be announced on the forum on Wednesday, April 27.
