Trailers for "Life" directed by Daniel Espinosa (Easy Money, Safe House, Child 44) and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland, Deadpool). Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson and Ryan Reynolds.

International trailer

A few websites that posted the trailer pointed out that there is a similarly themed film tentatively titled "God Particle" produced by J.J. Abrams (as part of his Cloverfield anthology series) that comes out a few months prior. Obviously, sci-fi films about mankind in space are a cornerstone of that genre, but with the success in recent years of films like Gravity/Interstellar/The Martian, I think of the idea that whenever a certain type of film is successful, any script that is similar will jump to the head of a studio's development (there's even another Alien film next year).

I'm not entirely sure what it is, but something about that trailer really rubs me the wrong way. It's an annoying piece of editing, but beyond that just feeling incredibly trite.  :-\

Cautiously optimistic. I don't know how you make a retro-nostalgia trip about that world, but it looks very much in the style of the first film which is awesome. I just hope the substance finds something more than "remember those fun old days when we were all on drugs?"

Where are trailer companies getting hold of all these downtempo remixes of uptempo songs?

If I have a lack of enthusiasm over a film that features a virtually naked Scarlett Johansson and a featured part for Takeshi Kitano that's because...

1. The director is Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman )
2. Back in my day, there was a very similar film called Johnny Mnemonic and it was terrible

There was a Japanese version of Johnny Mnemonic which hat extended Kitano scenes. I can only assume it redeemed the entire movie.
