The New Mutants trailer played before Black Panther last night and when it finished a woman in the audience just flatly said, "No." And the whole theater applauded her.

I like that Marvel is trying something different, but the trailer is terrible.

Brad Bird retained the rights to the characters, so they couldn’t do the sequel without him. Bird went into live action filmmaking and after Tomorrowland he returned home to re-establish credibility. Similar to Andrew Stanton making Finding Dory after John Carter, except Bird had an idea in the back of his head all this time.

No 2nd opinions?

I dread seeing this more than any of the Cars sequels.

Yeah, but you also think the Cars sequels are better than The Incredibles, even with the generous participation of Owen Wilson.

True, the sequels are actually better than the original, which is also better than The Incredibles.

Written and directed by Ramin Bahrani. Starring Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon.

I'm very curious to see what Bahrani does with this. I think it looks stunning.

I really like what I'm seeing there so far. Michael Shannon is almost too perfect for his role, and I'm always interested in seeing Michael B. Jordan on screen. I also like how they seem to have updated it. It's a super prescient book, so there wasn't a ton to do. Seems like the dog robot might have turned into a flying drone, which makes a lot of sense.

One of my favorite books. Interesting that this isn't going theatrical because it has a strong shot at making my best of the year.

The film also stars Sofia Boutella, which is going to be pivotal with me. I so want her to prove that she's more than an interesting face.

Damn. I knew about that movie before, but didn't know it was HBO. Not sure how I will manage to see it...
