Also, 1SO, funny you put The Empty Hearse in your bottom five. Basically convinced me that Sherlock is not for me despite really liking A Scandal in Belgravia. For me, they got it right once. The other episodes are middling to bad.

The Empty Hearse broke the series. Terrible story - I'm not even sure there's a mystery, it's that muddled - told in an aggravating manner.

I mean, I didn't mind them not telling us how Sherlock did it, but they sure squandered that episode away by telling us all the ways he didn't do it. So boring.

It's a bad episode, but it does give you lots of good Sherlock/Watson interaction. And the follow-up is much worse.
