Top 5 Websites for Movie Reviews
« on: November 18, 2016, 10:21:19 AM »
You can list IMDb-like websites as long as they have reviews on them or just regular review websites: blogs, journal websites with movie sections, pop culture forums or 100% movie dedicated places.

I use IMDB to read 1-star reviews, pretty much exclusively now. They will never fail to make you laugh when it's a movie you love, or make you feel not alone when it's a movie you hate.

Sometimes I'll venture to Bill's Movie Emporium, or Martin Teller's Movie Review. Or occasionally I'll check out what Ebert said.

For the most part I just search up the reviews that are available in this forum.

That's my 5. :)

But in honesty, Smirnoff is very similar to myself. While I don't seek out Bill's work anymore, when I'm looking for good writing on film I tend to come here, and read what people here have said. I occasionally go over to MovieMezzanine.com and Elbert's content is alway good, and Matt Zoller Seitz over at RogerEbert.com with Roger having passed. But ultimately most of my reading comes from following Filmspotter's on Letterboxd, and reading the reviews of critics here in the Columbus,OH area that are collected on COFCA.org

As for big websites, I like Variety and Indiewire the most for their festival awareness, in addition to their admirable contributors. Shout out to The Hollywood Reporter and The Playlist, too.

Friedkin's inelegant collision course between Father Karras and Burstyn's family seems rather overextended.
