Justice League

They are ruining the DC universe.

Pretty sure the DCU has been ruined for a while now.

4 times? What the hell...?

Isn't the most beloved song from the original sung by Kristen Bell?

Enjoy Gingerland.

It is not, that would be the notorious Adele Dazeem.

I don't know who that is, but I did Google things, and Anna, the non-blonde sister, is the one voiced by uber-blonde Kristen Bell. Now everything both makes and doesn't make sense.

Man of Steel is one of the two only worthwhile chapters in this forsaken project.

I have a soft spot for that movie.

Except for Wonder Woman, I haven't seen the others though.

Don't, unless it's thirty years from now and you have grandchildren obsessed with Superman and you're senile enough you will not feel the pain.

Home for the Holidays (1995)

This is a surprisingly good family dramedy directed by Jodi Foster. The first half is the highlight, which builds to a great Thanksgiving dinner scene. Robert Downey Jr is excellent as are Holly Hunter and Anne Bancroft. There's a phone call between the father and his son's husband that was overwhelmingly touching. The second half is unfortunately a more pedestrian romance between Hunter and Dylan McDermott, but I really enjoyed the film overall.

The Big Sick (2017)

Speaking of Holly Hunter, she deserves some nominations for her performance here. The film took a little while to suck me in, but once it did - basically with the arrival of Hunter and Romano - it really worked. Nanjiani is so talented. Also, surprised to see it was directed by Michael Showalter. In my head he's so tied to The State and Wet Hot American Summer ridiculousness, that I'm very impressed to see so much restraint and emotion in his filmmaking here. Good stuff.

Yeah, Holly Hunter is fantastic in that movie. A complex and believable performance.

I've spent a few days stewing on Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri. I think the story has a few issues, especially the ending, but by god the performances are all just pitch perfect and hit so hard over the entire runtime. I've enjoyed McDonagh's output, and while it's not faultless, Three Billboards has a lot more to offer in terms of character work and backs it up with the strongest cast he's been able to work to date.

The Escort (2016)

One doesn't necessarily expect much of a film that made my watchlist because I liked Lyndsy Fonseca in Kick-Ass and I imagined seeing her play an escort would be enjoyable. It caught my attention even more when in the second scene the actual main character (though Fonseca's title character is also a lead role) attends a dinner with his friends and a gal they are trying to set him up with. See, this gal was a ringer for the love of my life in look, sound and manner. Not sure if it is positive or negative points for the lead that he takes no interest in her and runs off for a casual hook-up via a "sex app."

You see, Mitch is an aspiring journalist with a compulsion for empty sex and after a chance encounter with a Standford-educated escort, he smells a story that could help his career. For her part, she comes to find his presence a benefit as well. Once they fell into a groove, the characters and their relationship became one that I enjoyed the presence of. Just the kind of light indie to not make you work too hard yet not feel like junk food either.

It (1990)

I can't imagine this TV mini-series being better than this year's film. It is quite flimsy. The main highlight was realizing it had a young Emily Perkins, later of Ginger Snaps fame.
