The Escort (2016)
One doesn't necessarily expect much of a film that made my watchlist because I liked Lyndsy Fonseca in Kick-Ass and I imagined seeing her play an escort would be enjoyable. It caught my attention even more when in the second scene the actual main character (though Fonseca's title character is also a lead role) attends a dinner with his friends and a gal they are trying to set him up with. See, this gal was a ringer for the love of my life in look, sound and manner. Not sure if it is positive or negative points for the lead that he takes no interest in her and runs off for a casual hook-up via a "sex app."
You see, Mitch is an aspiring journalist with a compulsion for empty sex and after a chance encounter with a Standford-educated escort, he smells a story that could help his career. For her part, she comes to find his presence a benefit as well. Once they fell into a groove, the characters and their relationship became one that I enjoyed the presence of. Just the kind of light indie to not make you work too hard yet not feel like junk food either.
It (1990)
I can't imagine this TV mini-series being better than this year's film. It is quite flimsy. The main highlight was realizing it had a young Emily Perkins, later of Ginger Snaps fame.
