I was looking at its release year, like an idiot. If you elect to throw sticks at me I'll understand.

Annie Hall is about a million times better than Star Wars, so I get it.

I'm happy as a 51 year old that Star Wars didn't win.  But I still like it much better than Annie Hall.

And my 51 self is embarrassed that my 12 year old self didn't know that Star Wars had been nominated.  Such a loser.

You likely had just remembered that it didn't win, and that terrible injustice, through the years, warped your memory into thinking it wasn't even nominated.

Reposting this here because I found it very interesting stuff. And also to drub up support for the idea of doing a forum Top 100 again this year:

I took the liberty of creating a spreadsheet of all the films to ever appear in a Filmspotting Top 100, and included their yearly placement for the 6 years we have conducted a Top 100. Here are some interesting factoids from that research:

There have been 178 films represented in a Top 100 at one time or another. Letterboxd list.
I have seen 167 of those films. Here is a list of films I have NOT seen:

The Science of Sleep
Stalker
Duck Soup
Ran
Le Samourai
Happy Together
The Lives of Others
Ikiru
Fitzcarraldo
F*cking Amal
A Woman Under the Influence

Of those 178 films, only 39 films were represented every time. Here are those films, listed in order of their average placement on the lists:

The Godfather (1.83)
Casablanca (1.83)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (4.83)
Citizen Kane (6.33)
Seven Samurai (9.00)

2001: A Space Odyssey (10.17)
Dr. Strangelove (12.00)
Singin' in the Rain (13.00)
Raider of the Lost Ark (13.17)
Pulp Fiction (13.33)
Once Upon a Time in the West (14.00)

The Big Lebowski (18.50)
The Godfather, Part II (20.50)
It's a Wonderful Life (21.00)
The Good, the Bad & the Ugly (23.00)
12 Angry Men (23.17)
There Will Be Blood (24.00)
Annie Hall (24.17)

You likely had just remembered that it didn't win, and that terrible injustice, through the years, warped your memory into thinking it wasn't even nominated.

The true crime was and remains the 1982 Awards when Raiders of the Lost Ark lost Best Picture and Best Score to Chariots of Fire.

Someone compare these two for me. I love Antichrist, will I like Melancholia?
