I mean, Blu Ray won out over HD DVD because of porn. It's influence is undeniable in these matters.

It did ? Could you elaborate, that sounds interesting ?

I don't have any details I just remember hearing that was the case. That because the porn industry chose Blu Ray, that the entertainment industry followed.

It was an element, I think, but maybe a bigger factor was that the cheapest Blu-ray player at the outset was a PS3 and at half the price you could also play state-of-the-art videogames. Hard to beat that in a bang-for-your-buck sense.

There's that whole part in cinematic classic Tropic Thunder where they talk about how porn pushed Blu-Ray over HD DVD.

I use to closely follow the format war at the time and was active in forums that were closely watching the numbers and what was being released each week.  While I can see having Porn’s endorsement may have put a tick on the side of BR, I don’t really recall it being much of a factor.  As mentioned above, having the PS3 support BR really drove the volume of players to the BR side. The HD-DVD side often wanted to look only at dedicated player sales as an indicator and argued that people only were buying the PS3 for games, but I don’t think it was the case at all.  I think the non-gamer players were weighted in favour of HD-DVD but the volume of the PS3 trumped all the players combined and drove disk volume.

I bought a PS3 and never bought of played a game on it. I wish I had kepted it  as if have an original PS3 that has an early version of the firmware that still do a dual boot, you likely can sell it for good money.  There are a small number of players (a couple from Panasonic, the Oppo 103/105, and the original PS3) that can be used to rip SACD’s to ISO files that then can be played through a computer or audio player.
