I use to closely follow the format war at the time and was active in forums that were closely watching the numbers and what was being released each week. While I can see having Porn’s endorsement may have put a tick on the side of BR, I don’t really recall it being much of a factor. As mentioned above, having the PS3 support BR really drove the volume of players to the BR side. The HD-DVD side often wanted to look only at dedicated player sales as an indicator and argued that people only were buying the PS3 for games, but I don’t think it was the case at all. I think the non-gamer players were weighted in favour of HD-DVD but the volume of the PS3 trumped all the players combined and drove disk volume.
I bought a PS3 and never bought of played a game on it. I wish I had kepted it as if have an original PS3 that has an early version of the firmware that still do a dual boot, you likely can sell it for good money. There are a small number of players (a couple from Panasonic, the Oppo 103/105, and the original PS3) that can be used to rip SACD’s to ISO files that then can be played through a computer or audio player.
