Probably. Melancholia is better and only slightly less audacious.

I liked Melancholia.  I haven't seen Antichrist.

I thought Antichrist was okay.  Melancholia is one of my favorite films.

The cinematography is remarkably different, Antichrist is dark and difficult, while Melancholia is gorgeous and stunning.  The visual art reflects the tone, for while both deal with depression and it's consequences, the ultimate consequences differ considerably.

The cinematography of Antichrist is my favorite part. The extreme way it deals with depression is fascinating. Sounds like I need to watch Melancholia, regardless of my feelings about Kirsten Dunst.

Who's the most famous/celebrated female cinematographer? How about composer?

Some day I'll have a demographic breakdown of all past Filmspot nominees by category. I'm curious to see if Natasha Braier and Anne Dudley will contend this year.

I know Ellen Kurasis a big deal DP. For Composers, there's Oscar winning Rachel Portman.

Mica Levi, on the score side. She did Under the Skin and... something else this year ?

*checks IMDB*

Jackie, that's it. Under the Skin was her first credit... that is quite an impressive debut.

In -phile circle, Agnès Varda?

While Varda shot parts of her late docs herself, you probably mean Agnès Godard (worked frequently with Claire Denis)?
