I don't know. That was the one I couldn't place at the time.

I just looked at their IMDBs and didn't notice any matches. Maybe they mistook him for Tom Hiddleston in The Night Manager?

It was. I am now suspicious!

Anyway, a nice kind of question to get.

If everyone had to ballpark it, how many movies do you think you watch for every movie that comes along and blows you away? Like a full 10/10 or Top-100 worthy or however you want to think of that top tier.

Or like, for every hundred movies you watch, how many would you say are top level experiences?

I'm just kind of curious what people would consider a lull. For instance, personally, if I haven't seen something in a calender year that makes my top 100, that's kind of my benchmark for defining a lull. But if I can add one thing to my top 100 in a year, I'm really happy about it.

Obviously I'd love for it to be higher, but I hang in there if 1 out of 4 are B or better, 1 out of 16 are B+ or better, 1 out of 64 are A- or better and 1 out of 256 are A/Top 100 worthy. So that would mean 1-2 per year into the top 100.

2013 saw the release of 11 films I consider Essential. There were 7 in 2014, but only 2 in 2015, none last year and none so far this year. I wondered if my standards have grown too high for many films to reach that top tier, but I watch Essentials from just a few years ago and find them to be every bit as good now. I have 45 Essentials from this decade.

I am keeping track of my Discoveries for a final 20 at the end of the year. 7 Discoveries I rated Very Good and none higher than that. The last movie to "blow me away" was Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014). So I think I'm in a lull right now, but I'm still finding good movies.
