The last time I added a new movie my top 250 was Remember the Night, which I saw in March 2014. I have very very few "blow me away" experiences these days, partly because 1) I've seen most of the acknowledged classics and an awful lot of the hidden gems that are likely to appeal to me, and 2) I don't watch nearly as many movies as I used to. On the up side, because I've gotten so much more selective about what I watch, I very rarely have a bad experience. Of the 55 movies (not counting rewatches or stand-up specials) I've seen in the past year, only 15 were below the "lime green" (mid-to-high "good") range. The rest were all at least pretty decent, very worthwhile.

Do you ever feel compelled to just sit down with something you know you'll love (an old favourite) over something new and unknown?

Sure, all the time.

:) I'm the same way. I'm curious, what films do you find to be the most rewatchable? Or the ones you find yourself rewatching most. I don't seem to revisit the dark, hardcore stuff anymore (Requiem for a Dream for instance). It's stuff like The Matrix, Inception, The Martian, etc that I stick to now. I used to be a more adventurous film watcher I think.

If you thought Malkovich was old now, just wait till he's 175 years old!

I'm hoping the release date gets moved up.

I actually worked with that project. It's a zany idea.

This is turning out to be a poor movie year. At this point last year I had watched a number of movies that ended up in my Top 10 and even more had been released in the US. At this point last year, Civil War and Deadpool had come out, I had watched Hail Caesar!, my number one movie, as well as Everybody Wants Some!! and US audiences had been able to see Sing Street. Except for a couple of animates movies I cannot think of something I would put in my Top 10 this year yet.

Get Out was released and would be a fitting #1 of the year in most years. Wonder Woman is my #6 right now. Given that we are only five months into the year (and I haven't been an active moviegoer), let's say Wonder Woman drops to #15. That sounds like a good year to me.

Will probably count Silence as a 2017 film because it didn't drop here until February. Also Get Out and The Lost City of Z will likely be in my top 10 of the year unless this year gets bonkers good at the tail-end.
