In 2017 I had as a resolution to watch at least one female-directed film and one foreign-language film per week and tracked it. I met both goals.

In 2018 I didn't track things as I went and wasn't making a particular effort but was hoping certain habits would have stuck. Just went in and counted and I ended up watching 45 female-directed films and 25 foreign-language films.

Of course one qualification is my overall filmwatching went down from 234 films to 184 films so that's 50 less films to work from so I'd say that on the whole I've successfully embedded habits on the one but not so much on the other.

I'm just determined to watch more films this year, two or three a week would be nice. Hopefully the new job working from home will allow for more films. However going to the cinema is still problematic, with the nearest cinema a thirty minute bus ride away, add in a drink/bite to eat and the trailers, this makes for a long afternoon/evening, in which time I could've watch two movies at home ???

I didn't make any efforts to reach certain quotas, still, I'm a bit surprised that I'm slightly below one-per-week with films by female directors in 2018.
312 feature films total, including revisits: 49 (16%) female-directed, 179 (57%) non-English.
91 films on my TYSF 2018 list: 22 (24%) female-directed, 38 (42%) non-English.

Didn’t track anything in 2018 but 2019 is a year of creating new habits. Not sure I will set specific goals as they are hard to achieve without buy in from another that I watch films with

2018 was a good year for me, I have been watching a lot of early shorts, and the for first time in ages saw more than 200 movies for the year. My breakdown by decade and feature/short is:

Decade    All        Features  Shorts
1870's202
1880's404
1890's1090109
1900's59059
1910's19019
1920's23419
1930's20515
1940's31229
1950's25520
1960's27522
1970's401624
1980's301515
1990's28919
2000's452619
2010's1291218
Total591208383

In terms of countries, the features were for 21 different countries and 23 different countries for the shorts. Overall 34 different countries. About 18% (37) of the features were not in English. More than half the shorts were silent and most were very very short.

16 (7.7% of features) re-watches, which is low as the kids like to re-watch movies.

Must track director gender for this year.

Go see Capernaum and start 2019 off on the right foot with both those goals.

As a Labaki stan I certainly will if it opens here. Though having joined AMC A-List I may get blinders on where other theaters are involved. I do get If Beale Could Talk this weekend.

Feels like I don't see Clive Owen as much as I used to. What would be a perfect Clive Owen sort of role at this moment?

I hope he avoids going down the Old-Man-Action-Hero road as he approaches that age.

Can we get him in a courtroom? With yelling?

Marvel villain. (Or someone in a Fantastic Beasts film.)

The guy in a Jurassic World film who thinks he's smarter than the dinosaurs.

A replacement for Alec Baldwin in the next Mission: Impossible film.

Rey's father in Star Wars

The guy in A Quiet Place 2 who's been surviving by running really loud generators around his gas station compound. He's lost some of his hearing and limps, but the most important thing is to keep refueling those generators.

The manager of whomever Creed fights in Creed III

The Mad King, Aerys II Targaryen, in a Game of Thrones prequel.

The voice of Scar in the upcoming Lion King remake?
