I feel like we had a whole big discussion of the best directors of the 2010s but I can't remember where. Pretty sure Sean Baker and Greta Gerwig were my top two.

Who do you think are the best directors right now, those whose works will endure? I'm trying to put together a list of directors from whom I've missed films or have just overlooked.

Tsai Ming-liang ("retired" but he apparently has a new film out which I didn't even know was happening and now it's making me crazy that I can't see it)
Bela Tarr (actually retired but recent enough to be worth considering for this topic, maybe?)
Apichatpong Weerasethakul
Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne
Aki Kaurismaki

Amazing, thank you.

And thank you to everyone that's chimed in.

More fun with Letterboxd Stats:

My top 5 actors (number of films seen...the average rating stat isn't useful since I haven't rated most of the films):
1. Samuel L. Jackson - 50 Films
2. Matt Damon - 46 Films
3. Bruce Willis - 41 Films
3. Woody Harrelson - 41 Films
5. Tom Hanks - 40 Films
5. Robert De Niro - 40 Films

Top actresses are Meryl Streep (38), Cate Blanchett (36) and Tilda Swinton (34)

My top 5 directors:
1. Alice Guy-Blache - 77 Films (go short films)
2. Steven Spielberg - 32 Films
3. Stan Brakhage - 27 Films
4. Steven Soderbergh - 23 Films
5. Woody Allen - 20 Films
5. Frederick Wiseman - 20 Films

$19 for a year of pro, my wallet is itching for all those stats. Only trouble is I only have about 1/3 of my films seen recorded in Letterboxd.

I put each but Tarr (who I'll see later in the Sight and Sound marathon and make a decision on then) on mine, want to incorporate directors outside of the U.S.A. as much as possible. Now I'll put it on you if I can't find one of their films!  ;D

Thinking about trying Letterboxd Pro as well, but I feel like I'll need to really start keeping on top of the watchlist feature to make it worth it for me. Do like the stats though.

Lol I pulled the trigger in bed last night.

Need to look in to AMC's rental service too, specifically if they have a Roku app and if I can use all the stupid rewards points I have to knock down Never Rarely Sometimes Always down to a $5 or less rental this weekend.

EDIT: Think Samuel L. Jackson is my most watched actor as well according to the stats. I figure it's because of the sheer number of Marvel films he makes an appearance in.

Tom Hardy sets the bar for most number of impressive performances over the last decade.
Inception (2010)
Warrior (2011)
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Locke (2013)
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
The Revenant (2015)
Dunkirk (2017)

Plus there are the TV shows "Peaky Blinders" and "Taboo" and he raised Venom up as high as it could be raised.
