My #1 non-English film for 1945 (and #2 film for 1945 overall) is Under the Bridges.

Other than that, however, I'm afraid it's pretty English-centric. Dames du Bois and Children of Paradise both make my top 20 for the year, but barely.
Under the Bridges is not a 1945 film anymore. It's 1946.

Sigh. I sure wish Criticker could just keep their years in sync with IMDb. It'd make things so much easier. I bet I could even write the script with a little research.

Looking ahead to a 1943 vs 1945 showdown...

Top films I've wanted an excuse to discover:

1943
Edge of Darkness
The Constant Nymph
For Whom the Bell Tolls

Action in the North Atlantic
The More the Merrier
The Song of Bernadette
So Proudly We Hail!
Jane Eyre
Sahara
The Battle of Britain

Old Acquaintance
This Land Is Mine
Watch on the Rhine
The Hard Way
The Human Comedy
Holy Matrimony
A Guy Named Joe

1945
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
Murder, He Says
The Enchanted Cottage
Leave Her to Heaven
The Corn Is Green
Hangover Square
Les dames du Bois de Boulogne
The Body Snatcher
The Southerner

Spellbound
Blithe Spirit
My Name Is Julia Ross
The Seventh Veil

The Valley of Decision
State Fair
The Picture of Dorian Gray
Road to Utopia
The Clock

Films I'd welcome an excuse to revisit:

1943

The Ox-Bow Incident
The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp

Stormy Weather
Bataan

Destination Tokyo
Lassie Come Home

1945
Children of Paradise
Brief Encounter
Rome, Open City
The Way to the Stars
Story of G.I. Joe
A Walk in the Sun

The Lost Weekend
Scarlet Street
'I Know Where I'm Going!'
And Then There Were None
Objective, Burma!

Our Vines Have Tender Grapes
Christmas in Connecticut
The Bells of St. Mary's
They Were Expendable
Lady on a Train
Detour

Giving three points for teal, two for green, and one lime green, it scores out as:

1943: 44
1945: 74

So I definitely have my rooting interest.

Apparently I unconvinced someone else, lol. 1945 was briefly up to 5 votes but now back to 4.

1942 had seven John Wayne films... in case that changes anything. :) This is not my decade. Struggling to find reasons to pick one year over another.

This is not my decade.

I think you could have fun with the war films, similar to westerns in 1957.

For 1943, I'd love to hear your thoughts on The Ox-Bow Incident (a western) for sure, but also Bataan, Destination Tokyo, Action in the North Atlantic, and others.

For 1945, there'd be Story of G.I. Joe, for sure, and maybe A Walk in the Sun, plus Objective, Burma!, They Were Expendable, and others.

Seems a good approach, considering the era.

Damn, I had vague memories of that but was too lazy to search to be sure. :)

I could see you getting into They Were Expendable, 'noff. In some ways it could have served as a good movie to build Rogue One on, had they gone that way. Certainly it has more character development in a similar situation.
