How to upload an image to a post
« on: January 05, 2017, 12:22:09 AM »
Big thank you to smirnoff for writing this for us!

Go to: imgur.com

Click this:

Then Click:

You'll see this:

You can browse for the image file on your computer, or drag and drop the file directly into the screen above.

Once uploaded you'll see your image on screen. Right-click it and select "copy image location"

Then in your forum post paste the copied URL between some image tags.

Like this! [img]http://i.imgur.com/rB6okI7.jpg[/img]

And it will show your image.

Use width and height parameters in your image tags to scale the size of your image.

Also, if you make an account, you can go to images under your username, drag a picture over, and then click on the picture and it'll give you a bunch of options for linking the image, includding a BBCode that will work on the boards.

Also tinypic tends to empty out their files after a couple of years, so your beautiful thread ends up looking like this.

edit: whoops, didn't see Sam's post. This is what Sam was talking about:

I find this way a little easier. Instead of doing "Copy image location", hover over the picture in imgur. A bar should pop up that shows the url, a button that says "Copy" and a drop-down arrow.

Click the down arrow and select "Get share links". This dialog pops up:

Select the "Copy" button under BBCode. Now paste it into the forums. Now you don't have to type the img tags.

You don't have to type it. There is an image tag button when you're writing a post, like for the rest of the formatting options.

That way works too and is probably the same number of keystrokes/mouseclicks.

All good tips. :)

Additionally, if you want to get fancier there are browser plugins available which let you upload to imgur simply by right clicking on an image you see on any website.

I use Firefox with the Rehost plugin myself and find it works very well.

Once you've installed the plugin just right-click on any image and hit "Rehost image and copy to clipboard"

And without opening a tab or going to imgur, the image is rehosted and the url copied to you clipboard, and you can just go ahead and paste it where you need it.

Other plugins for other browsers are available and work in a similar way. Just google "your browser imgur plugin" and I'm sure you'll find one that works.
