I am lucky enough to get free screenings quiet often

I've always wondered how you see so many films early. Is it through sites like Gofobo or do you work for a studio or something?

I have been on the press list for a PR company called The Owens Group for local screenings for a few years now. Just this past year I joined the Central Ohio Film Critics Association, so I was also added to the list for a PR company called Allied, which grants me access to a few more screenings I wasn't getting before. In addition, membership in the COFCA puts my name on distribution lists for studios who send out end of the year Awards screeners. It's a nice perk! But I've been writing reviews on my website for the better part of 7 years now, so I like to think it's the fruit of my labor.

$11-12 regular, $7-8 matinees, and $5 Tuesdays around here.

Very often. I have an "unlimited" card, which makes it appealing to see a lot of movies (though really it'd be financially worth it with 3-4 movies a month). I go every week to see 3 movies coming out that week, and every so often on Thursday night when my local theater shows a "cult" film (read : well-known, from Rear Window to Eternal Sunshine by way of Grease).

Relevant to this topic, I saw today that the local art-house is bringing in The Handmaiden. I was intrigued until I saw that it is nearly three hours. The combination of subtitles and uncomfortable seats makes that length of a film prohibitive in this particular theatre setting.

Every so often.

A little more in the summer and the holiday season, but it evens out overall. I'd love to go more often.

The movie theater used to be my church and while there would be occasional disruptions, they were uncommon.

There was an incident where my wife and I went to a mostly empty screening. A family came in late, sat a couple of rows ahead of us. Then they started taking flash pictures. I said they needed to stop and the father moved to between me and the screen and told me it was his kids first movie. I said he could take all the pictures he wanted to after the show. He stood there - I felt my wife's grip tightening around my arm - and then he went back to his family. Took one more photo.

The best thing about seeing a movie in the cinema is other people.
It can also be the worst thing.

The best thing about seeing a movie in the cinema is other people.

I was going to call this out, but my theatre experiences watching Children of Men and It Follows were both so good because of communal reactions, as good as those films are, I don't think I'd hold them in as high of regard without that.
