Index Guide

Up to date, as of July 19, 2017.

The marathons are divided into three general categories:
  • Director Marathons
  • Top Films Marathons
  • Franchise, Genre or Thematically Related Marathons

A marathon's STATUS can be as follows:
  • Active - The marathon is currently ongoing and has been pursued within the last 6 months.
  • Complete - The stated objective was accomplished or the duration of the project has ended.
  • Inactive - The marathon has not seen activity in 6 months or more. It may or may not resume.

*notes for anyone with a marathon with an "inactive" status

This is something of a catch-all classification that will include a wide range of marathons which were pursued to various degrees. It could be further broken down into sub-categories including: Abandoned (the author has no intention of resuming the marathon, for a variety of possible reasons ); Dormant (author intends to one day resume); and finished to the satisfaction of the author (Author is satisfied with the ground which was covered and does not intend complete the marathon as it was initially devised, effectively ending the marathon).

It's this last case that I think warrants some special consideration. There are a good deal of marathons which were pursued most vigorously, with many films watched and many reviews written, and which might easily be thought of as having been accomplished but for the initial scope of the project. Say an animation marathon which covered 30 films, but which originally had intended to cover 40. The author may not intended to pursue the marathon any further, but to think of it as inactive suggests that it is incomplete, when for all intents and purposes the marathon was pursued and the spirit of the objective was fulfilled.

So in those cases where the author or authors feel satisfied that the current accomplishments of the marathon have fulfilled the spirit of the project, and do not intend to pursue it any further, I'd like to change the status to complete, in the hopes of clearing some of the marathons off the "inactive" board. All I would ask is that the authors go back and amend their first post to reflect the revised scope of the marathon, so that future readers are not confused at being unable to find reviews for a film in a marathon that's listed as "complete", or at how the written scope does not appear to match the content.

I do not think I need to define any minimums. Filmspotters may be their own judge in this. Don't be too hard on yourselves though. Remember, in simpler days marathons were 5 films long! They still can be! We're mostly just guilty of having eyes bigger than our stomachs.

1960s World Cinema: Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (1964, USSR) is actually a sub-thread of the 1960s World Cinema marathon. That's the thread that should be indexed.

Thanks, this is awesome!

Thanks, I'll switch that that up.
