Is it okay if I keep everything in just one column? Tabulating looks better on the page but I find it hell to deal with the code.

Sure, up to you. I was originally reluctant to suggest columns because I thought the code would be a turn-off, but then I realized it's actually very little code that's completely unobtrusive when you go to make edits to your posts. Quote the sample above and you'll see.

Let's say I already have a full list of five nominations in one of the categories and come back from the cinema. The movie is not quite good enough to replace any of the ones already present on the ballot but could have made its way into the list had the year been slightly weaker so far. Should I then still fyc it? It seems to me I should since the entire fyc process is mostly about notifying people about what they could be interested in watching, but after all the talk about people fycing too much this year, I thought the question merited to be asked.

I plan to expand my personal ballot to six or more nominees in categories where some of my top choices are unlikely to gain any sort of collective traction (festival films, e.g.). Otherwise, though, if I have five popular choices that I feel really strongly about, I don't see myself calling attention to an alternate choice that might take a spot away from one of my favorites.

In other words, it's probably a case-by-case-basis choice for us each to make. Ideally, people only FYC things that truly think are award-worthy and avoid, like, "Here's something that's decently good that could maybe fill out someone else's weak sauce ballot." The presence of those options occasionally seems to dilute the quality of the eventual nominees.

Yeah you're right, it's pretty simple. Why does the colour change to light charcoal though ?

This year I want to make an effort to keep my ballot up-to-date throughout the year. I'd love it if as many people as possible followed suit, as this thread could make a great complement to the FYC threads. In fact, in at the end of June, September, and December, I'll try to use the in-progress ballots in this thread to update the FYC threads. Sound good?

pixote

The 2017 Filmspot FYC Threads are now up! These personal ballots will be a great way to keep up with everything this year, so be sure to check out the FYC threads to help maintain your ballot throughout the year.

We also strongly encourage you to FYC anything on your ballot you feel passionate about in order to get it on fellow filmspotters radars! As pixote mentioned, we will plan to periodically review ballots and include any FYCs that have not been put forth otherwise throughout the year.

Happy Filmspotting!

I updated my ballot, with the movies if not with the proper order. I don't know if it's any use at this point but there you go. I really should revise what movies I nominate. There are some early nominations I now regret and I have already filled important categories halfway through the year.
