I had this argument in real life once, planning a Studio Ghibli marathon and debating whether or not it should start with Nausicaä. I was on the "of course it should" side. But then again, I'm someone who pronounces Ghibli with a hard g.

Fair enough, I'm clearly in the minority! To me, the spirit of a question like this is "which are your favorites by this group of artists working in a certain idiom?" more than "which are your favorites that have this logo on them?" but that's just my perspective. Feel free to mentally scratch out Nausicaa when looking at my list. It is at #13 on my list, so just treat it like one of those elevators that have no 13th floor.
Yea, I get that. There are plenty of fans who go Lupin forward when talking about Ghibli. It's almost like the subs/dubs argument. People have preferences and while you may think one is wrong, both are valid. A couple of Ghibli films I have only seen dubbed and the dubs were good enough I didn't think that I was missing a definitive experience.

When my local theater curated a Studio Ghibli program, it included Nausicaa. Therefore, I included it on my list here as well, since that program was my first exposure to much of their catalog.

I have a Disney Animated Studios poll and a Dreamworks poll. It is about more than the logo, it is about consistency. If I include other works by the directors of the studio, why not include Lasseter's Disney works in a Pixar poll or something to that effect? There is a logic in proceeding by studio, which admittedly is less strong in the case of Ghibli because this is basically the product of two directors but them's the rules.

(Now, off to check if there is a Pixar poll already I go. Probably...)

I disagree on several points, but I feel like I've derailed this thread too much already. It's your poll, so your rules!

Yeah, derail away as far as I am concerned. Now I am curious about those points.
