Best and Worst Winners: Oscars 2017
« on: February 27, 2017, 04:24:19 AM »
What are the Top 5 and Bottom 5 winner choices of the 2017 Academy Awards? What are you glad about, what went really, disastrously wrong? Who totally deserved their little gold man, who should be ashamed to even be sitting in that room? What makes the Oscars great ; what makes them shameful and pathetic?

Top 5:
  • Best Director: Damien Chazelle
  • Best Cinematography: La La Land
  • Best Original Screenplay: Manchester by the Sea
  • Best Actor: Casey Affleck
  • Best Score: La La Land

Bottom 5:
  • Best Picture: Moonlight
  • Best Editing: Hacksaw Ridge
  • Best Actress: Emma Stone
  • Best Song: City of Stars
  • Best Visual Effect: The Jungle Book

Is there anything worth watching in the ceremony? Were the speeches very political?

I'd say the highest point of the night was the performance of How Far I'll Go from Moana. I don't know what it is, but Auli'i Cravalho has it. Just 16 and completely nailing a live performance at this scale, even with getting hit in the head with a flag.

Just watched that. It's incredible what animation can do nowadays, she looks so real.

Two more years until it becomes socially acceptable to have a crush on her.

I'm guessing Warren Beatty won't be retaining Pricewaterhouse Coopers to do his taxes this year.

I thought I was back among the Top when I saw this. The camera movements in that movie are amazing! Not to mention the other stuff.

I don't really think I had issue with any of the winners. A lot of deserving nominees this year. If my preference didn't win, well, it was just my preference.

Yeah, I think the most underwhelming win to me was Zootopia, and that was fine. I guess Hacksaw Ridge for Editing, too.

I love the use of purple, but this is the one category where Moonlight was the clear best nominee.
