TRAINSPOTTING wasn't huge hit in its day, but the 1996 film made an impression on a generation of young film fans thanks to its visual flair, memorable soundtrack and quartet of talented stars. That quartet - lead by Ewan McGregor - is making a surprise comeback 20 years later with the release of T2 TRAINSPOTTING. Also back: director Danny Boyle. This week on the show, Boyle sits down with Adam to talk about how he approached the sequel, and contributes his own Top 5 Danny Boyle Characters. (Spoiler: they're all women.) Plus, a surreal chat with Tim Heidecker and Gregg Turkington from Adult Swim's "On Cinema," Filmspotting Madness Round 2 results and Film Comment's Violet Lucca drops in for week 2 of the Agnes Varda Marathon.

I think I'd love how awkward it'd be, or how awkward it should be.

Wow.

"I'm going 'Empire'", he says. And the other one agrees with him.

Your methods are unsound.

"What should have been an enjoyable 90 minutes of nubile, high-school flesh meeting a frenzy of blood-caked blades, becomes instead an exploitational and complex parable of the conflicting demands of agrarianism and artistry. I voted a miss."

Can't argue, Willard.

This was a really great episode. Danny Boyle is such a fun and energetic interview and I love the Varda marathon.

Two quick questions kind of on Filmspotting Madness. Things I think I've heard from the hosts but maybe not:

1) Isn't it time for you guys to put Rear Window in the Pantheon? I might be wrong, but I feel like Josh once said it is his go to answer when he is asked what his favorite movie is.

2) Adam is bewildered regarding Back to the Future moving on, despite loving the movie. But do I remember correctly that he has never watched the sequels? They are fun stuff if not the great movie the first one is. I feel like there might be a lot of biased votes in this thing (me among them) just based on having grown up watching all three of those movies probably dozens of times. It's really hard to disassociate Marty from hoverboards and being called a chicken. Maybe not the best movies in the series, but I think the Rocky story is better for Ivan Drago and the Star Wars universe is better for Jabba the Hutt.

I'll just say that Sam and I were both surprised Rear Window wasn't on Josh's list of pantheon contenders.

Yep, never watched the sequels, and can't really say I have any interest.

That was a joke about "Fassbinder" right? Those two guests were a pair of morons.

Um, what are you talking about?

Oh, I figured it out... not familiar with Adult Swim.
