Top Five Movie Soundtracks I Listen To Apart From the Film
« on: March 23, 2017, 07:16:12 PM »
For myself, I wonder if my list shouldn't separate out musicals from scores/soundtracks.  I think of them differently.

Musicals
1. The Nightmare Before Christmas
2. Mary Poppins
3. Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog
4. Funny Girl
5. The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Score/Soundtrack
1. Once
2. The Last Temptation of Christ
3. The Mission
4. Amadeus
5. Drive

I'd count Once as a musical, but other than that, I'm with you on your list oldkid. I listen to a lot of The Sound of Music and West Side Story as well, with I Got Rhythm from An American in Paris getting a solid amount of play, too. Purple Rain, obviously, there's none better. I made 3 1000-song long playlists mostly out of movie scores for reading to. Among favorites in that are Catch Me If You Can, Steve Jobs, Last of the Mohicans, pretty much any Michael Giacchino movie, and It Follows. It's a confusing playlist, sometimes.

I thought I understood the difference between Soundtrack and Score, but I clearly don't.

I thought I understood the difference between Soundtrack and Score, but I clearly don't.

Score is original material specifically crafted for the movie. Soundtrack is when you're using already existing songs in your musical makeup. Don't let Bondo tell you otherwise.
