Honestly, I never saw the film I, Claudius, but I did read the book.  I generally trust BBC miniseries', which I Claudius was turned into.

I, Claudius is very impressive, as it was done for TV in 1976 the production quality is a little low and the overall feel of the mini-series is a little stagey. However you have some great performers in the show: Derek Jacobi, John Hurt, Patrick Stewart, Brian Blessed and a brilliant performance by Siān Phillips as Livia. The show covers from Tiberius through Caligula to Claudius.

When I said "Constantine without the religion", I really meant without the religious reforms after he became emperor.  The religious politics is really interesting during the civil war and although there will be aspects of a typical approach I wouldn't care for  (he probably didn't have a vision of a cross, but of the chi-rho), but it will still be fun.

Who should play Constantine?  Thomas Hardy would be cool.

He's too old for an early Constantine. The first question should be: how much time will the movie span? Young actors are better for playing different ages because it is easier to make someone look older than younger.

You're right, of course.  I started looking at young actors, but they all seem so boring.

Tom Hiddelston is ageless and forever exiting.
