Yeah, pix's post is a contender for "Best of the Forum"

Just to piggyback off of Martin's post, about three years ago, I would have answered the "best place where you lived" question with Portland, no question.  But their treatment of the poor and low rent and houseless has disgusted me to such a degree that I can no longer bear to live here.

What is your favorite food or drink?
Green tea ice cream
&
Port

I am sure you meant those separately, but I can see those two working niftily together, especially i the green tea is Korean.

That was no typo, sir!

I meant the ice cream + Port. Maybe in a flambé sort of situation.

Trying green tea ice cream today for first time. Seeing it on the menus here. I'll let you know if it changes my life.

What is the best place you've visited/lived?

I've only ever lived within about 25 miles from where I was born, so it's all basically the same. If I had to pick one town it'd be Ocean Grove - specifically the second of three apartments we lived in there - mainly because it's right next to Asbury Park, so there was always stuff to do within walking distance. The other towns I've lived in (including my current town) are much more suburban.

My wife and I went to Middlebury, VT on our honeymoon. It became one of our favorite towns to return to and has become something of a dream destination for when we finally get sick of living here.

What is the most romantic thing anyone has done for you? (PG, please!)

I'll kick myself when I remember something actually good later, but for now I'll mention the time my girlfriend (now wife) made a 15+ hour drive to meet up with my band for the last week of our tour.

What is your favorite food or drink?

Cheeseburger & Johnnie Walker Black

Alt. pick: Two Scrambled Eggs and Coffee

Robin William's genie appears to give you one wish for your life-- what is it?

As mundane as it is, I'd go for the money. I wouldn't ask for a stupid amount - I'd ask for as much as I make at my crummy job now (probably a bit more). I'd just want to be able to do the extracurricular things I do without having to waste 9 hours in the middle of the day.

[I will continue this later]

I don't know about shock, and there are many examples I could give, but I'll just mention the one. I was in the capital city of a third world country and every time I would go out I would be assailed by beggars, most of them children, scam artists and street vendors would call out to me, going so far as to following me around to bring me back to their stalls. Being white, they could safely assume I would be among the 5% richest of the population, and even better, a sucker.

Tell us a story of culture shock you've experienced.

Going from the progressive, hugely Democrat, diverse Hyde Park in giant metropolis Chicago... to my first day of college in the redneck, incredibly conservative, one-horse shitheel town of Richmond, Indiana. The college itself (Earlham) is an ultra-liberal enclave, but the surrounding town is godawful. The first words any Richmonder ever said to me were "Earlhamite faggot".

Haha, my mom was born in Richmond, IN, and lived there until she was 7.
