Haven't seen:

Aladdin
Captain America: Civil War
A Royal Affair
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Elle
La La Land (watched 20-30 minutes, did not enjoy)
Les Choristes
Your Name
Captain Fantastic
Easy A
Kingsman: The Secret Service
Margin Call
Speed Racer
Pain & Gain

As I said in the other thread, I've already got Elle locked and loaded. I'm still deep in the library queue for Your Name, almost certainly won't get to it this month.

What does deep mean here? How many people frequent your library?

I cannot see a movie in that list that you would obviously enjoy.

I'm #46 in the queue, they have 53 copies. People can check things out for up to 3 weeks. You would think that means I would get mine by the end of the month, but it rarely works out that way (probably because people return things late, also processing time).

How many people frequent your library?

Well, there's about 800,000 people living in the county, so a lot?

I cannot see a movie in that list that you would obviously enjoy.

Not even Your Name? I'm pretty solid with Shinkai (other four I've seen got scores from 73 to 83).

I'm also wondering what you would name as a movie I would obviously enjoy.

I meant beside the ones you already expressed an interest in.

Your library has 53 copies of an anime movie? Just how large is this place? Is it the only one in the county? I don't know anyone who uses the public libraries even in the places that do have good ones, so those numbers sound really large. I mean, if there are currently at least 43 people in queue for a not really mainstream movie how large must the total number of people who actually use the library be?

I am reasonably sure you would enjoy Good Time more than I did. I don't know about obviously because it's hard to think of a movie I have watched and you haven't that I think you would like. I'd have to think about it.

53 copies in the entire country library system. It's not one "place". There are about 20 branches that each have their own collection but when you put something on hold, it gets delivered to your local branch.

It's a great system and Portlanders are big into books so it gets a lot of use. The library played a big role in my blossoming cinephilia. It was the only way I could see Satyajit Ray films (albeit on VHS) at the time.

I've got some holiday time so maybe I'll watch some movies this month. Here's what I haven't seen from DH:

Le Roi et l'Oiseau
The Big Short (watched 10 mins and quit because it bored me)
The Great Beauty
A Royal Affair
Elle
Les Choristes
Your Name
Captain Fantastic

Garden State
Kingsman: The Secret Service
Le Dîner de Cons
Margin Call
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Pain & Gain

Bolded the ones I'm most likely to watch.

Happy to help catch up with last year's movies. Were they on your radar already?

Interesting how well your list overlaps with Martin's. I wonder if this is representative of the movies in my Top people have generally less seen. Probably true of the french movies, Margin Call and a few more.

Thanks for the excellent movies I got to watch in Oct., Jeff! I'll have some words about Phoenix posted today.

This month I'll be watching,

There Will Be Blood
Magnolia

And DH, you'll be happy to hear, KOL and I will watch and discuss A Royal Affair. :)

Cool, are others allowed in the conversation?

You make me want to rewatch Magnolia again. It is such a rewatchable movie.

I'll ask KOL. It would be fun, but will change the nature of the dialogue, from two neophytes figuring out what they just watched, to having you in the mix bringing up great points that you have pondered on for quite some time. Both scenarios have value! Maybe a one-two punch would work well, where we hash out a few things and then bring you in for more in depth discussion. What are your thoughts?

I'd love if you watched Magnolia again and reply with your experience when I post a review.
