Badass Women of 2017
« on: June 21, 2017, 09:40:10 AM »
I was thinking about last night's cinema session and it dawned on me that the three last movies I got out of the house to see featured some pretty hardcore ladies in their main roles. Not only do we have the first female superhero solo movie but someone is actually trying to out-Ripley Ripley. With the first ever female jedi coming to our screens at the end of the year, I propose we pick the most badass characteress of the year.

I will add more options in the future if the upcoming releases warrant it.

And yes, one of these things is not like the others, and I do not mean to ability to sustain a full two-part name.

One of these movies doesn't come out for another SIX MONTHS. Why post this now?

Because I would never remember to do it later, and I was interested in the summer picks. The Rey option is there so I don't have to add it later.

This list make me miss Imperator Furiosa (Mad Max: Fury Road).

BTW, where are...
Lorraine Broughton (Atomic Blonde)
Delphine (Atomic Blonde)
Ahmanet (The Mummy)
Casey Cooke (Split)
Antipoe (Wonder Woman)
Major (Ghost in the Shell)
Laura (Logan)
Gamora (GOTG2)
Alice (Resident Evil: The Final Chapter)

Good suggestions, thanks. I am going to apply the following arbitrary rules:

1. No Atomic Blonde before its release.
4. No Antipoe because I cannot remember which one she was (Wright I would assume, but still), and also because one Amazon per movie is quite enough, poll-wise.
2. No Ahmanet because she is not a protagonist. Also, I've not seen the movie.
3. No Alice, because, well, I don't like the series, and also, we've seen her a bunch already.
4. No Split girl because she does not fit the bill.

Considering your list I am surprised you did not include the emo from Underworld.

Honestly, at least some of these are better characters than Furiosa. They certainly have more complete arcs and more developed personalities.

Difference is, I know I am going to want to add Rey in Docember. I have no idea what Atomic Blonde is though and whether anyone on it deserves to be on the list. It is an important list, a special, selective list, and its standards must not be taken lightly.

It's a movie by one of the directors of John Wick starring Imperator Furiosa. I think it's a safe addition to the list.

Delphine (Atomic Blonde)

I would vote for her based entirely on the trailer I saw.  No CGI, no bullet time.  Those punches and kicks made ME feel pain.
