Top 5 Villains of the XXIst Century
« on: July 14, 2017, 11:54:00 AM »
One of my main takeaways from Covenant (which I have still to write anything about) was that David was one of the best villains I could remember seeing in a long time. I am pretty sure he would feature near the top of any top villains list made by me. Anyone wanna compare notes?

I'm going to take this a year at a time ...

For 2000, I'd expect Ben Kingsley as Don Logan in Sexy Beast to be a popular choice; or Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho; but I might have to go with the villain in Unbreakable, despite not being a huge fan of that film. I don't see an option that really jumps out at me.

Nice non-obvious ones!

The Dark Knight's Joker
Ex Machina's Nathan
Pan's Labyrinth's Vidal
V For Vendetta's Sutler
City of God's Lil Ze

1SO I don't know how you can make a list like that, with that level of detail and method, and not include the Joker. What do you think is so good about all those animated ones? And also, is Voldermort really that good a villain? I find there's just not much in the text for him.

I know a protagonist can be a villain of a story, but I cannot bring myself to consider any of the main characters villains. Patrick Bateman is the hero of his story.

I like chardy's list a lost.

2000 - Miranda Richardson as Mrs. Tweedy in Chicken Run

According to my HS girlfriend's budding Libertarian brother the real villians in Chicken Run were the chickens.

1. The Joker (The Dark Knight)
2. Hans Landa (Inglorious Basterds)
3. Loki (MCU)
4. Anton Chigurh (No Country For Old Men)
5. David (Alien: Covenant)

HM: Zé Pequeno (City of God), Terrence Fletcher

This is very tentative.
