Weird that Lady Bird didn't get a nomination for Best First Feature.

I was wondering about that... I suppose it's because she co-directed a movie with Swanberg before so that makes her inelligable (despite so many entertainment news outlets stating "Gerwig's directorial debut" in their articles/reviews).

Re: Independent Spirit => Nice that they embraced Get Out so fully, curious to see if the film does well in the rest of the season. Presumably it'll get in at various critics awards at least.

I'm always interested in the idea of a recency bias. I've seen a few websites wonder if Get Out or Dunkirk had come out later in the year, would their position in these awards campaigns/nominations change. I'm sure they'll both do well, but as for how well- I think Dunkirk would stand a better chance, while Get Out benefited from being released in February when nothing else was there to take attention away from it.

I like Get Out well enough, but if that thing makes legitimate awards noise...yikes.

Get Out is still my #1 of the year, but then the last film I saw in the theatre was Wonder Woman.

New York Film Critics Circle is currently announcing. This link should update itself as the day goes on.

I don't suppose we can agree not to nominate Phantom Thread for any Filmspots? I really don't want to see it.

I think I'd love how awkward it'd be, or how awkward it should be.

It probably won't be out in time for me to vote for it (if I were even inclined to, I'm not exactly a big PTA fan), so I'll be doing my (non-)part.
