Turns out the Hollywood Foreign Press really really likes 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Lady Bird the also relatively dominant film of the evening, which of the two is hopefully the one that would have more legs heading toward the Oscars. The best director win for del Toro at least gives some hope that The Shape of Water hangs in the conversation as well.

I liked how tonally at odds and unaware the joke from Faith Akin was when accepting the Best Foreign Language award, "I'd like to thank Warner Brothers...if you see a cop, warn a brother." Classic.

Alexander Skarsgaard referred to his female co-stars in Big Little Lies as "girls" and I was like "I hope he enjoyed his balls."

In other Big Little Lies news, I just read that Jean Marc Vallee (who I like as a director) is stepping out of season 2 due to scheduling conflicts, which made me wonder if I'd continue to be interested (not having watched any episodes yet) but apparently Andrea Arnold is coming in for season 2 so now I'm even more on board.

When I heard Alexander Skarsgaard I thought they were talking about Bill Skarsgård and thought Pennywise was nominated.

Which got me wondering why I’m not hearing more talk about accolades for Pennywise.

American Society of Cinematographers nominations

I confess to being a bit disgusted by the nomination of The Shape of Water, with all its restlessly inartful camera movement. For the ASC to nominate it speaks to much of what's wrong with contemporary mainstream cinematography, ugh.

I think I'd love how awkward it'd be, or how awkward it should be.

The McDonagh nomination is a joke.
