The Swedish Film Awards ("Guldbaggen") were appointed yesterday.

The Nile Hilton Incident won for best film to much surprise. As consolation, Ruben Östlund won the best director category for The Square.

Full results (in Swedish).

Wait, The Nile Hilton Incident is a Swedish film ? Could not have guessed that from, you know, watching it (same situation as Mustang for France I suppose).

I did like it better than The Square though, so I for one like that result.

It was filmed in Morocco. The producer said yesterday that the crew were 13 different nationalities in all and they had to use English, French and Arabic to communicate between each other.

I haven't seen it but I also think I would prefer it to The Square.

Agnes Varda and Sufjan Stevens are Oscar nominees. (But Frederick Wiseman is not, damn.)

About as good a list of nominees as you could hope for from the Oscars.

I hope you all follow Michael Phillips on Twitter. His commentary was straight fire.

There's still the Filmspots where Wiseman notoriously finds a way to stick it to FLY at every possible opportunity.

I don't expect Ex Libris to earn a nomination until 2018, so you'll be able to see it on PBS or perhaps watch it on Kanopy (depending on the Philly library).

I wonder if I'd be allowed to get a Philly library card  :-\

If I can count it as a 2018 film and the chance presents itself, perhaps I too will board the Wiseman express.
