Top 5 Cinematic Collaborators
« on: August 28, 2017, 05:01:57 PM »
Was thinking of this while watching Twin Peaks:

David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti

Ingmar Bergman and Sven Nyqist

Ming-liang Tsai and Kang-sheng Lee

Martin Scorsese and Thelma Schoonmaker

Akira Kurosawa and Toshiro Mifune

I also have to say Joel and Ethan Coen, who would probably appear on just about anyone's list.

This one really didn't gain any traction. Already been done before?

Most people don't know much about cinematographers. I know I don't. But now that I look at your list I realize actors also count. I think the Director/Actor pairing Top 5 has already been done. I tink there is an episode that did it too. Not Director/Writer pairings, that could be interesting...Or musical composers.

The Coen Bros. & Roderick Jaynes
Steven Soderbergh & Peter Andrews
Steven Soderbergh & Mary Ann Bernard
Charlie Kaufman & Donald Kaufman

And one that's a bit unconventional: Sergio Leone & Akira Kurosawa

I certainly like what Leone brought to Kurosawa's work a lot. That one gunfight scene in Ikiru was the highlight of the movie.
